Casinos' Nonprofit Organizations Provide Millions of Dollars in Grants Annually

The Iowa Gaming Association, in partnership with the Iowa Council of Foundations, recently released its Building Iowa’s Communities Through Philanthropy report. The report showcases how Iowa’s commercial gaming industry is a catalyst for philanthropic initiatives and supports communities in every county in our state.
 
In its 17th year, the County Endowment Program is funded with .8% of the state’s commercial gaming tax revenue, and the funds are distributed to the 84 counties without casinos. Since the County Endowment Fund Program began in 2004, more than 30,500 grants have been made to invest more than $117 million across Iowa. Alongside this investment, the Endow Iowa tax credit program has leveraged more than $311 million in gifts to permanent endowed funds in Iowa.
 
The report also details the 19 commercial casinos’ involvement in their respective 15 counties, including portions of gaming tax revenue distributed through their qualified sponsoring organizations. These nonprofit license holders awarded more than 978 grants totaling more than $106 million in 2019-2020, ensuring that citizens in every county across Iowa benefit from commercial casinos to keep Iowa thriving as an ideal place to live, work, and raise families.
