About Us

CREATED TO SUPPORT IOWA’S
GAMING INDUSTRY

The Iowa Gaming Association (IGA) is the statewide trade association of Iowa’s 19 commercial casino entertainment industry and its related partners. Formed in 1999, the Iowa Gaming Association helps educate information to the gaming community, federal and state governments, and the public on gaming’s economic impact on Iowa.

History of Gaming In Iowa

For a complete gaming history in Iowa, view the Iowa Racing & Gaming Commission’s detailed chronology section. For more information, chapters 99D and 99F in the Iowa code relate to commercial racetracks and riverboat casinos.

Referendum Vote Process

Citizens in the counties seeking gaming operations must vote on new licenses and expansions, called referendums. A referendum vote is also required every eight years to continue gaming operations unless a county has successfully passed two consecutive successful referendum votes. Here are the votes that have passed from 1989-2021.

Native American casinos are unaffected by referendum votes because they are under a different sovereign nation regulatory structure.
