The Iowa Gaming Association (IGA) is committed to helping family and friends identify warning signs of potential problem gambling and finding help. We have ongoing discussions with gambling addiction treatment providers and other organizations interested in prevention, awareness and treatment programs.
The Iowa Gaming Association and its members work directly with the Iowa Gambling Treatment Program and the 11 problem gambling treatment and prevention programs it funds by offering assistance to problem gamblers, their families and other concerned individuals. Services include help line referral and education through 1-800-BETS OFF and www.1800BETSOFF.org; counseling and recovery support for problem gamblers and those affected by gambling; and prevention efforts that provide information on the risks and responsibilities of gambling, especially to at-risk populations.
Goals of These Efforts:
- Ensure gaming tax funds are earmarked by the state for the Iowa Gambling Treatment Program
- Increase public awareness of problem gambling resources
- Heighten public knowledge on where to seek help for a gambling problem for oneself or others
- Improve understanding of problem gambling in the context of current public policy as it is formulated by the legislature and other policy-making bodies
The IGA takes its responsibilities to its members and state residents seriously. We are proud that Iowa voters have consistently supported gaming and Iowans' freedom to choose how to spend their budgeted entertainment dollars. The IGA encourages everyone to spend with their head, not over it!
**The 2015 annual report showed 92 percent of those treated by the Iowa Gambling Treatment Program reduced signs of problem gambling. Review the report here.**
