Supporting economic development is a central theme in the mission of the Iowa Gaming Association members. This is why we advocate for the Buy Iowa First program, which allows Iowa-based vendors to be competitive in bidding with out-of-state businesses. Price, distribution, volume, storage and quality of the requested product or service are all factors in the decision-making process.
In 2012, Iowa's commercial riverboat and racetrack casinos purchased $260 million worth of products and services from companies based in our state. This is a clear indication of our commitment to Iowa businesses. In fact, 89 percent of the total expenditures by IGA member casinos on products, supplies and services available in our state was with Iowa-based vendors.
